WECC offers a well lit and regulation trap and skeet range. League and open shooting is available on Sundays (8am-Noon) & Wednesdays (6pm-10pm). During listed range times league and open shooters are welcome! Leagues are very flexible to allow individual shooters and squads. The newest trap house gives shooters ability to shoot wobble trap and doubles.
WECC has both a 50 & 100 yard rifle range adjacent to the clubhouse. Both ranges face towards the east and allow a capacity of 12 targets. The 100 yard range has a canopy providing shade and protection in bad weather. There is no 'user' fee for members to use the 50/100 yard range but you must be certified to use the range or a range officer must be on site while in use. Certification can be obtained at most monthly meetings.
The 600 yard (North) range is located on club grounds to the north of the clubhouse and can be used on pre-approved dates only. You must be certified for use on the 600 yard range. Any firearms used on the 600 yard range must have known 'zero' at 200 yards. One person may use the North range at 200 & 300 yards provided he/she is certified by the club to do so. Any shooting beyond 300 yards requires a minimum of 3 people (1 must be certified). A separate range fee of $5.00 for members and $10.00 for non-members will be charged for each day of use.
600yd RANGE SAFETY PLAN
Revised 9/19/2017 Range is closed for maintenance!
The 600 yd range at the Winnebago Eastshore Conservation Club is located to the North of the clubhouse, 100yd range and trap and skeet. Access to the 600 yd range is from the south by undeveloped roads leading from the clubhouse north.
Purpose: The purpose of this safety plan is to govern the use of the 600yd range and to outline the control measures to ensure safety when using the range.
1.Perimeter Signs: NRA perimeter range warning signs will be permanently around the perimeter of the 600yd range at approximately 50yd intervals. These signs will serve to warn anyone intending to enter the land encompassing the 600yd range to KEEP OUT. Signs purchased from the NRA will be used to eliminate any concern of the verbage used.
2. Road Signs/Gates:There are 4 roads that access the 600yd range. The road coming from the West of the property is of no concern as this access point is safe while the range is in use. The other 3 are: 1) A service road going North from behind the clubhouse and entering the 600yd range at the 300yd firing line. 2) A service road at the 100yd range impact area leading North and entering the 600yd range near the target shed. 3) A service road accessed from Hickory Hills Rd East of the 100yd range and entering the 600yd range from the hill at approximately the same location as service road 2. These 3 roads are gated with easily visable, appropriate signs permanently mounted on them. These gates remain open when the range is not in use. Before the 600yd range may be used, these gates MUST be closed so that the roads are effectively blocked.
3. Range Flags:A secondary indicator of live fire range activity are the red/yellow flags located 1)East of the 300yd firing position and 2) North of the target frame area. These flags will be hoisted and visible prior to any firing.
4. a)Certification: Only members that are certified by the Rifle Range Committee are authorized to run the range. Certification requirements include:
1) Reading and understanding the 600yd Range Safety Plan
2) Agreeing to barricade roads and hoist the range
flags as required.
3) Understanding the concepts of shooting at distance.
4) Showing proficiency while shooting at distance.
5) Using safe firearm handling.
6) Knowing and using proper range commands.
One certified member shall be present for any firing on the 600yd range. A list of club members who have shown acceptable completion of the certification as described above will be displayed at the clubhouse. Anyone discovered running the range that has not been certified may be subject to membership suspension or revocation and may be subject to trespass violation law.
b) 200-300yd Firing: One certified member may conduct live firing on the 600yd range at the distances of up to 300yds. All road barriers must be in place and the 300yd range flags hoisted prior to commencing fire.
c) Firing Beyond 300yds: Three people minimum are required to use the 600yd range for firing beyond 300yds.One person will be designated the shooter, one person will be the spotter and the third will act as safety observer. The spotter will be located in the spotter pit and must remain in the spotter pit during live fire. A spotting scope and two-way communication will be required equipment for using the 600yd range. The spotter will use a spotting scope to observe the target from the spotting pit and communicate back to the shooter the location of the impact on the target. The spotter shall only leave the spotter pit when the shooter has the firearm unloaded and the range is called safe. The use of an empty chamber indicator is mandatory. The safety observer must be at the same firing point as the shooter and not participate in live fire at the time.
5. Firearms Allowed: Only firearms with a known zero may be fired past the 200yd firing position.
6. Firearm Use:
a) It is of extreme importance that no shots be fired over the backstop( no stray rounds). Always keep the muzzle pointed at he backstop. Never allow the muzzle to point in any direction whereby an inadvertent discharge would allow the escape of a projectile beyond the range. To ensure that this does not happen, fingers shall remain outside of the trigger guard until all firearms are on target. This rule shall be followed at ALL times.
b) DO NOT handle firearms when the range is called safe and others are downrange.
7. Alcohol Use: The use of alcohol or drugs prior to or during shooting activities is absolutely prohibited.
8. Access: The 600yd range will be available for use on days scheduled by the club. Shooting hours on scheduled days shall be from 8:00am until dusk unless noted.
9. Targets: Only authorized target frames and backing material are permitted to be used on the range. If a shooter wishes to supply a target, it must be attached to an authorized frame. Targets and frames are stored in the target shed and are available for use by club members authorized to use the 600yd range.
10. Range Fees: Members-$5.00/day of use
Non-members $10.00/day of use
11. Sign-in Log: Sign-in log shall be used. The log will be located at the South end of the access road behind the clubhouse. Individual users and/or, in the case of a match, Certified Range Officers shall sign in prior to shooting and sign out after shooting. CRO's will maintain a list of all participating shooters. Safety observers, if applicable, shall be identified.
12. Usage Days: Dates for range use can be obtained from the WECC website.
All of the range(s) are subject to the rules and regulations as set forth by WECC. Any person(s) caught using such range(s) without authorization by WECC or is not a member in good standing with a membersip card will found trespassing without permission and shall be prosecuted.
